At Woolworths, our commitment to helping customers make healthier choices is a key priority. We’ve heard your feedback on our initial Healthier Choices metrics, and we’re excited to announce some important updates.

We’ve refined these metrics to give you a deeper view of your performance, helping us partner more effectively to meet our shared goals. The metrics will be scored to assess the Trade Partner relative to the subcategory average, but will not be weighted towards monthly or partnership tiers.

A more accurate view of healthier performance

Last year we launched two Healthier Choices metrics in the Supplier Connect scorecard, to help our Trade Partners better understand how they sit relative to others in the subcategory. These metrics are scored but are not weighted towards monthly or partnership tiers. You might have noticed in your June scorecard, released in July, that the Healthier Choices metrics had changed. These changes are designed to provide a clearer, more stable picture of your performance.

Here’s a breakdown of the key updates:

Before
After
HSR On Pack Coverage
HSR On Pack Coverage
This metric remains the same. It measures how well we’re helping in-store customers make healthier choices by using the Health Star Rating (HSR) on product packaging.
(New Metric)
HSR Digital Coverage
We’ve added this new metric to measure our ability to help digital customers. This includes SKUs where HSR data is provided even if it isn’t on the physical pack, reflecting the growing importance of online shopping.
Healthier Sales Penetration
Healthier Tonnage Penetration
We’ve moved from measuring sales dollars to tonnage (the proportion of weight or volume). This change provides a more accurate view of what customers are actually consuming and is less affected by price promotions or inflation.
Dynamic Scoring
(based on sub-category min and max)
Fixed Range Scoring
(0% to 100% of opportunity)
We’ve moved to a fixed-range scoring method. This reduces volatility, ensuring that minor changes within a sub-category don’t cause disproportionate shifts in your score.

Why these metrics matter

The Health Star Rating (HSR) system is a crucial tool for our customers. A large proportion of shoppers use it to make informed decisions, and they want to see it on more products. While ~100% of our own-brand products in intended categories display the HSR, there’s a significant opportunity for branded products to increase their coverage. Currently, just over 31% of branded SKUs in these categories display the HSR. By working together to increase this number, we can not only meet government uptake targets but, more importantly, better serve our customers’ expectations.

Positive momentum has been building so far this year, as 60% of participating Trade Partners have Scope 1 & 2 goals, and 48% have Scope 3 goals. Second-year participants recorded higher ‘average climate KPI scores’. 56% of greenhouse gas emissions intensity assessments showed a year-on-year decrease, with reductions mainly occurring in the value chain’s manufacturing and/or processing stage.

Where to find the updated scorecard

You can find the updated metrics in your monthly Supplier Connect Scorecard, which is available through the Supplier Connect in the Quantium Portal. We encourage you to use it to have data-driven discussions with your Category teams about opportunities to partner on enhancing these metrics over time

For any questions about these changes, please reach out to your Category Manager or the Supplier Connect team at [email protected].
