The Speed of Innovation: Inside Oxyshred’s Transformational Category Blueprint
The Speed of Innovation: Inside Oxyshred’s Transformational Category Blueprint
Health and wellness, both at Woolworths and at large, is experiencing a rapid revolution. As more Australians look for daily energy, training motivation, and routine consistency – the demand for functional, fun, better-for-you products has never been higher. Sitting squarely at the centre of this momentum is OxyShred. Delivering ready-to-drink, sugar-free energy beverages, OxyShred has exploded into a major growth market.

The team at OxyShred, and their parent company EHPLabs, have written a new playbook on how a challenger brand can successfully align with a major retailer to unlock mutual category growth. We sat down with Joy Chang, OxyShred’s Head of Sales At Home, and Chelsea McMillan, National Account Manager, to see what sparked their spectacular success.
As Joy puts it;
“The success of OxyShred at Woolworths comes down to a genuine partnership built on trust and shared ambition. From the outset, we’ve approached the relationship with a category-first mindset, understanding not just what we want to achieve as a brand, but what role we need to play within the broader category to drive incremental growth for Woolworths.”
This clear sense of purpose allows them to navigate what’s a highly competitive, and already crowded energy drink landscape. Chelsea declares, “We operate in a highly competitive space dominated by big, established players and recognise the standard we need to bring to the table to earn our place in the Category. Whether it’s a challenge or an opportunity that gets thrown our way, we’re hungry and agile. That clarity of purpose and complete alignment shapes every decision we make together.”
This agility was clearly demonstrated when EHPlabs became an early adopter of Woolworths’ Lower Shelf Price (LSP) program, moving quickly to optimise their commercial strategy and build long-term shopper trust. Joy notes “A big part of our success is our ability to read trends and signals in the market and then respond quickly. The competitive environment had shifted since we launched and we recognised that our biggest opportunity was in optimising our price and promotional strategy.” Leaning into the LSP framework allowed OxyShred to protect everyday price trust while deepening their retail relationship.
“Delivering value and price trust to Shoppers was a key priority for Woolworths so the stars aligned when the LSP gave us both a framework to activate a more consistent, value-driven pricing strategy whilst supporting a strategic Woolworths program. By bringing together our objectives, we were able to show up as a true partner and that created a collaborative foundation to take the relationship from transactional to transformational.”
Yoana Francisca, Woolworths Category Manager for Drinks, agrees; “Our partnership with EHPlabs has been built on the clear communication, understanding and respect of each other’s strategic priorities, our shared commitment in delivering these priorities, and EHPlabs agile ability to take advantage of opportunities within the Woolworths ecosystem. EHPlabs have been exceedingly successful in their adoption of LSP, have had a market leading NPD launch through Woolworths, and had their highest grossing sales week ever by backing an exclusive masterbrand through Woolworths.”
This collaborative foundation has allowed OxyShred to leverage an internal culture defined by breakthrough innovation and speed to market. Rather than chasing passing trends, their product development is highly intentional, focussing on bringing best-in-class functionality to shelves.
Chelsea reflects, “We understand our brand positioning and our role in the Category so we don’t chase me-too trends. Innovation is central to OxyShred’s identity and our team is constantly developing new products that will enhance and empower our community. We’ve made deliberate and strategic decisions on what, how and when we launch NPD so that we can achieve sustainable growth without compromising on our commitments to our customers.”
That commitment clearly resonated with consumers, who came flocking when OxyShred Infinity, a zero-caffeine, zero-sugar, ready-to-drink (RTD) energy and focus beverage, was launched in the Woolworths aisle.
“OxyShred Infinity has been a fantastic launch for us; true, meaningful innovation that gave new shoppers a compelling reason to engage with the category through a non-caffeinated Energy Drink.”

One of the team’s biggest strengths is their capacity to digest retail feedback and turn it into swift action on the store floor. By combining data-driven insights with commercial flexibility. “We don’t think or trade like a small supplier, we show up as a best-in-class partner,” Joy and Chelsea emphasise. “We’re data and insights driven, flexible in our test-and-learn approach, and we don’t just listen to feedback: we act on it quickly. Working closely with the Woolworths Commercial team, we create opportunities while staying ready to seize any that arise. Our size enables fast decisions, strong alignment, and communication which make it easy to say yes and bet big when the time is right.”
Yoana has seen those bets pay off in real-time; “EHPlabs are consistently at the forefront of Energy NPD, and the proof is in the results. This year, EHPlabs have grown over 100% within Woolworths. Not only this, they have contributed the second highest dollar growth to the Energy Category which is particularly impressive considering Energy is one of the highest growth sub categories in the business.”
The ultimate case study of this proactive approach came alive during a recent Range Review, where both teams co-authored a long-term category strategy.

“It’s our best example of what true collaboration looks like in practice. Rather than walking in with a stack of new products and hoping to land some of it, we started by getting completely aligned on objectives; what role do we play, what are our growth drivers, how far can we stretch? Once we had built and set that strategic foundation, we built the plan over several collaborative sessions. We brought emerging trends and shopper insights to the table, and together we translated those into a long-term growth strategy. The result wasn’t just a good Range Review; it was a blueprint for how we wanted to work together going forward.”
With a strong team, a commitment to mutual accountability and constant alignment between Trade Partner and Grocery Retailer, OxyShred isn’t going anywhere. They’re full of energy, and poised to deliver premium value to Australian customer baskets for a long time to come.
